Coaching

Build a Sustainable Acting Career (Not Just Chase the Next Gig)

Work 1-on-1 with a working actor who's been in the trenches for over 25 years—Broadway, film, TV, and everything in between.

You're Talented. You're Trained.

But That's Not Enough.

Talent and training don't automatically translate into a working career. I learned that the hard way over 25 years of performing on Broadway, in national tours, and on film and television.

The actors who keep working aren't just the most talented—they're the ones who understand the business side. They have systems, strategies, and a roadmap. They know how to navigate the chaos without burning out.

That's what I help you build.

Whether you need help with your materials, agent strategy, audition technique, career planning, or just figuring out what the hell comes next—I've been there. I know what works because I've lived it, and I can help you navigate it without wasting years trying to figure it out on your own.

I work with a small number of actors at a time to ensure everyone gets the attention and support they deserve. If you're ready to stop spinning your wheels and start building real momentum, let's talk.

What We Work On Together

Every actor's path is different, so coaching is customized to your specific goals and challenges. Here's what we can tackle:
  • Career roadmapping and goal-setting – Create a clear, achievable plan for the next 6-12 months
  • Resume, headshots, and marketing materials – Make sure your materials are professional and working for you
  • Agent and manager search strategy – Learn how to find representation and make yourself attractive to them
  • Self-tape and audition technique – Show up prepared, confident, and camera-ready
  • Building relationships with casting directors – Network strategically without feeling sleazy
  • Mindset, sustainability, and dealing with rejection – Stay sane, stay inspired, and keep going when it's hard
  • Creating a career that doesn't burn you out – Build something sustainable, not just a hustle that grinds you down

Who Is This Right For?

This coaching works best if you're:

Serious about building a career, not just dabbling. You don't have to be full-time or union yet, but you need to be committed to doing the work.

Willing to be honest about where you are. No judgment—but we can't fix what we won't acknowledge. If you're stuck, overwhelmed, or lost, that's exactly where we start.

Ready to implement. Coaching isn't magic. You'll get strategies, accountability, and support—but you have to actually use them between sessions.

Open to seeing acting as a business. You're an artist, yes. But you're also running a small business, and treating it that way changes everything.

If that sounds like you, let's work together.

Why Work With Me?

I'm Benjamin Howes, and I've been a professional working actor in New York City for over 25 years.

I've performed on Broadway ([title of show], Scandalous, Mary Poppins), in national tours (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Shrek, Mary Poppins), and in film and television. I’ve worked with Steven Soderbergh, John Doyle, Kenny Leon, Jack O’Brien, Josh Rhodes and more. I've auditioned thousands of times. I've had legit agents and commercial agents. I've been hustling, struggling, overwhelmed, and wondering if I’m climbing the wrong mountain. I've also had incredible highs and built a career I'm proud of.

But here's the thing: I didn't figure this out alone. I had mentors, coaches, and fellow actors who showed me what actually works. Now I'm doing the same for you.

I've also coached new consultants at PwC, teaching them how to build relationships, communicate effectively, and present themselves with confidence. I know how to help people get unstuck and take action.

I created The Working Actor NYC because I kept seeing talented actors struggle with the same things I struggled with—and I knew I could help. If you want someone who's been in your shoes and knows how to navigate this industry, that's me.

How Coaching Works

Step 1:
Apply
Fill out a short application so I can understand where you are and what you need. This helps me figure out if we're a good fit and what kind of coaching makes sense for you.
Step 2:
We Connect
If it looks like we're a match, I'll reach out to schedule a brief call. We'll talk about your goals, answer any questions you have, and discuss which coaching format works best (1-on-1 sessions, group coaching, or a workshop).
Step 3:
Get Started
Once we're aligned, we'll schedule your sessions and get to work. You'll walk away from each session with clear action steps and accountability to keep you moving forward.
Step 4:
Build Momentum
This isn't about quick fixes. It's about creating systems and strategies that keep working long after our sessions end. My goal is to help you become self-sufficient and confident in running your career.

Coaching Options

I offer a few different ways to work together, depending on your needs and timeline:

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the format and number of sessions. After you apply, I'll recommend a package based on your goals and budget. Pricing ranges from single consultations to multi-month packages.

Nope! I work with actors all over the country (and internationally) via Zoom. That said, if you're NYC-based, we can discuss in-person options.

Most 1-on-1 sessions are 60 minutes. Group coaching and workshops vary.

That's totally fine! I work with actors at all levels, from beginners to veterans. We'll start where you are and build from there.

I focus on career strategy, business skills, and navigating the industry. I love working with my friends on their self tapes and helping them with the techniques that bring the best to their auditions, but that’s not the focus of this coaching.
